2014 Tour of Homes Pond
This customer came to us in spring of 2014 looking for someone to help him with the filtration on his pond build that was being built the same time as the new house for the annual tour of homes. The entire pond was dug, built, and landscaped in about 2-3 months by Braun Landscape and several of their employees. It took many man hours and many long days to get completed by the deadline for the tour of homes. Braun did the construction of the pond, construction of the filter pit, and all of the landscaping. We designed the plumbing and filtration for the pond, oversaw the construction of the pond, and did most of the installation and plumbing of the filtration equipment. The pond and entire landscaping turned out to be a piece just like you'd see out of a magazine. The homewoner is very happy with the outcome and it only takes him minimal time once every couple weeks to clean the filters and test the water on the pond.
The pond is a 5000 gallon rectangular formal koi pond with an approximately 500 gallon raised feeder pool/header pond. The header pond is used to display any water plants since the main pond is too deep. Filtration consists of two 4 inch aerated bottom drains and two Savio compact skimmers. The two 4 inch bottom drains each gravity feed into an Aqua Forte Ultra Sieve 3 Pre-Filter. A Sequence 8200gph external pump takes suction from the Sieve and feeds into an Aqua Ultraviolet Ultima II 10,000 gallon pressure filter. After the pressure filter, the water flows through an Evolution Aqua 110 watt UV clarifier and then returns to the pond via four under water tangential pond returns that aid in sweeping any debris on the bottom of the pond to the drains. On a seperate circuit, a 7,000gph external pump with a large priming trap takes suction from the two Savio Compact Skimmers. The water from this pump is split feeding the lighted colorfalls and returning to the header pond. The header pond then spills over in to the main pond.
Veneta Pond Filtration Upgrade
This customer came to us summer of 2015 extremely frustrated that their pond wouldn't stay clear or clean and was always overwhelmed with algae. After looking at the pond myself, I noticed the only filtration was a submersible pump in the skimmer feeding a Pondmaster watergarden type pressurized filter. For a 3500 gallon koi pond with around 18 medium sized koi, it was obvious the setup was totally inadequate for the size of pond and fish load. Sadly, the homewoner paid a premium for the inproper type and size of filter and for someone to install it. They were so frustrated with the amount of maintenance required and not being able to see and enjoy their fish.
Rainbow Pond Fish upgraded the filtration by installing a 2" retro bottom drain plumbed to a Zakki Sieve Pressurized Pre-Filter with a 250 micron screen that filters out all the solids before going through the pump. The Sequence external pump feeds an Aqua UV Ultima II 6,000 gallon pressure filter, then goes through a large swimming pool UV Sterlizer and returns to the waterfall. There is also a full size Savio Skimmer on the pond with a waterfall pump inside that feeds the waterfall for additional water flow. We also added a 35 watt air pump running a couple of air stones for increased dissolved oxygen in the pond for the fish.
We perform monthly maintenance on the pond and every time we have been there since the filtration upgrade, the water has been gin clear and free of algae. The home owners are happier than they've been in a long time. Mostly because they can finally see and enjoy their fish. And maintenance is much easier and enjoyable.
Pool to Pond Conversion
This customer came to us in summer of 2015 looking for someone to help them with converting a large swimming pool to a pond. With our help and guidance, the homeowners did the building and constructing of the pond as well as the filter pit. They used two sides of the pool for the pond and built the other sides using concrete building blocks which are filled with rebar and cement. We designed the plumbing and filtration for the pond, oversaw the construction of the pond, and did the installation and plumbing of the filtration equipment. The homeowners did all the landscaping and final touches on the pond as well as constructing a small pergola that cantileavers out over part of the pond.
There is a ledge that extends around two sides of the pond for the homeowners to put there water plants on. The pond is around 5000 gallons and is about 4 feet deep.
Filtration consists of two 4 inch bottom drains and one Savio Compact Skimmer. The two 4 inch bottom drains gravity feed to an Aqua Forte Smart Sieve Pre-Filter. A 7000gph external pump takes suction from the Smart Sieve and feeds a pair of Pondmax 3600gallon pressure filters which both have built in UV Clarifiers. The water then returns to the pond via three under water returns to increase circulation in the pond. The Savio Compact Skimmer houses a submersible waterfall pump that returns water over the side of the pond for now but will eventually feed a waterfall. This pond turned out very nice and the homeowners are still working on it.
Hayden Bridge Springfield Pond Build
This long time customer was moving summer of 2016 and asked us to build a new pond for her so she could move her fish with her. We were fortunate enough to meet and work with another contractor that did the excavation for the pond and a lot of other work we wouldn't have been able to do. He helped tremendously with the concrete collar that was put in around the pond, built the filter pit and cover, and the awesome pergola over the pond. A lot of credit has to be given to Rick for all of his hard work.
We designed the plumbing and filtration for the pond, oversaw the construction of the pond, and did the installation and plumbing of the filtration equipment.
The pond was being built at the same time as a the house which made the install a little more tricky. After being part of a pond build twice now at the same time a house is being built, I highly recommend if able, waiting until the house is complete and yard fenced before starting on a pond. But in the end after a little tweaking on the pond, everything turned out great and the homeowner is very happy.
This oval shaped pond is right at 5,000 gallons and is 4 1/2 - 5 feet deep throughout.
The filtration on this pond is housed in a filter pit in the ground constructed of pressure treated lumber. The filter pit is approximately 6 feet wide x 6 feet long x 4 feet deep and has stairs leading down inside. It has a custom made two piece lid with doors that hinge open to the outside of the pit allowing for maximum space and head room when down inside servicing the filtration equipment. The lid is covered in polycarbonate roofing to keep all the equipment concealed and dry inside.
Filtration consist of one Koi Toilet four inch aerated bottom drain and a surface skimmer with both having 4 inch pipes gravity fed to an Aqua Forte Ultra Sieve 3 Pre-Filter. Then an Evolution self priming 7800gph self priming pump takes suction off of the Sieve and feeds an Aqua Ultraviolet Ultima II 10,000 gallon pressure filter. After the filter the water is split, with half of it flowing through an Evolution Aqua EVO 55 watt UV Clarifier and the other half returning to the pond. There is also a 45 watt air pump that runs the air diffuser disc on top of the bottom drain to add oxygen to the pond as well as increase the effectiveness of the bottom drain.
Our Old 3000 gallon Pond
This is our pond from our old house in Springfiled before we moved in fall of 2014. When we moved in to the house in 2007, the backyard was just a dried up weedpatch that had been let go and neglected by the previous homeowner. We spent the 7 years we lived there improving the backyard, putting in a pond, and landscaping it making it our little oasis. It was sad to leave all of this, especially after the people who bought the house after us filled in the pond and ripped out everything we did including the deck in the picture. Unfortunately the yard is back to just a barron dry lot.
